• Develop a strong professional secretariat (“front-office”) that can provide services to
meet the expectations of the members and other stake holders.

  • Staying engaged with all stake holders to ensure that regional voices are heard at the
    National Level.

  • Disseminate accurate conflict related information from the regions.

  • Build capacity to address conflict related problems of members.

  • Develop conflict prevention mechanisms within the local Chamber membership and
business community (eg. to promote membership and management that reflects ethnic
and religious compositions of the region within the Chamber structure).

  • Promote more proactive participation of the regional business community in the peace
process and in practicing corporate social responsibility.

  • Promote a more inclusive business approach towards marginalized groups in the
economic sphere (eg. to encourage more women members in Chambers, and to provide
more business opportunities for the youth).

  • Collective lobbying with the private sector and civil society in the regions, for
appropriate regional development policies, to overcome the traditional Colombo centric
approach.  A "bottom-up approach" as opposed to a "top-down approach".

  • Support reconciliation by strengthening (economic) relationships between diverse
regional and ethnic communities while contributing to peace-building within own
district as well (districts as entities with their own conflict dynamics).

  • Promote further the sharing of inter-chamber experiences and best practices.

  • Create regional chamber clusters to work together on specific projects that are of
common interest to the cluster regions.

  • Further collaboration with the Government, the National/Colombo based Chambers,
“Big Business”,  Non Governmental Organisations and the donor community for capacity
    building and regional development.

  • To provide regional networking and institutional capacity for project facilitation.

  • Develop a centralized agency/body to be a focal point and clearinghouse for regional
members with diverse backgrounds and interests.

  • Ensure a clear vision on possible peace advocacy activities that are in line with the
BPA’s areas of expertise and command.
